I couldn’t bring myself to talk about my self in third person. It’s too clinical! So here I am in first person …..just me n’ you. It’s a little weird talkin’ bout yourself like this, but here goes. I was born in Tucson, Arizona, where I went to high school. I then received my undergraduate degree in Education from Northern Arizona University. I actually had a double major……Special Education and Physical Education. Shortly after I started teaching in the public schools I met a quite remarkable woman who steered me in another direction. She told me that I would be a great Orientation and Mobility Specialist. I didn’t understand. What’s that? When she told me, I thought my heart would burst from my shirt. She told me that Orientation and Mobility Specialists teach blind children and adults how to travel, either with a dog-guide or a long cane. I was freakin excited! I returned to school and walked away with a Master’s Degree from Cal-State L.A. For the next 30 years I taught blind children and adults to travel, shop and basically git around. What an amazing career! So many wonderful memories.
I have also loaned myself out as a Special Education Teacher to the public schools for about 10 years, teaching children with various disabilities. In that forty year time span I raised four loving children, sometimes with a partner and sometimes without. Lot’s of lessons there! Did I mention that my kids were triplets and their older brother was only 16 months older. Lot’s more lessons huh! I tell ya what I know……life is not like a box of chocolates…….it’s an entire personalized course in Personal Development! And I love teaching…..oh my gosh what a perfect mix. So I’ve made it a practice to share what I’ve learned, hoping to shorten some other people’s learning curves. I’ve taught parenting(because I got that one in spades…..I mean triplets err….quads.) I’ve taught drug education, because I lost my oldest child to drugs…..no jokes here. I’ve taught motivational trainings, and classes on Moving Thru your Fears(If I can get a blind person to cross at an intersection with heavy traffic and then take an escalator to the third floor of a department store, I guess I understand fear and the human spirit.) Oh, and I’ve done presentations on the Attainment of Peace, and Talks on Forgiveness. I think I’m ready for one on Personal Relationships. By now I should have earned a couple of degrees in that area. And, I think my gorgeous wife would say I’m at least worth an honorary degree, or at the very least, an Honorable Mention. And one of my very favorite passions is teaching Life Skills to Young Adults. Oh and yeah, I’ve done more than my share of counseling. I’m really being the best me, when I’m sharing myself with others, so on my word, I’m deliriously delighted to be with you at this time and to be of service. I am honored to share you with you the Road to Peace and Forgiveness, so you can connect on a deeper level the joy that forgiveness brings. See, wasn’t this more fun than a clinically sanitized Rob Kagel 🙂
